ROCK - Raising Our Christian Kids
"The wise man built his house upon the rock." Matthew 7:25
The Bible uses the ROCK many times in reference to Jesus and God as the foundation of our faith. Family Ministry strongly believes that parents are the primary nurturers of faith in their children. Family Ministry will be offering ROCK events to help parents build their homes on this foundation. These events are designed to help "bring it home" in different ways through ideas and resources.
All builders of faith in our children (which is really all of us) are invited to come and join us as we seek to live out our baptismal promises to the children of our congregation.
The first ROCK event was held on January 21, 2007, with an overview of the story of Zacchaeus, the current focus of Faith Village, and with a library Open House where families could find many resources for devotions at home.
The mission of Family Ministry at Massanutten Presbyterian Church is to strengthen and nurture the bonds of families and faith. Recognizing that parents have the primary responsibility for developing faith in their children, we aim to join as a church in supporting them in this important task. We seek to help families discover ways to deepen their faith both within the walls of our church and in their homes, and to support them in weaving faith into their everyday lives.
Family Ministry will also create opportunities for members of the congregation as a whole to join in finding ways to live out the vows made to children and their parents at the time of baptism. Family ministry recognizes that we all are members of the family of God and should join joyfully in sharing and growing our faith.
Areas in which Family Ministry supports and nurtures our church family include:
WOW
Our WOW program meets on Wednesday from 4 - 7:00p.m. Students participate in fellowship, Bible Study, and worship in a fun and loving environment. A sit-down meal is provided which fosters a sense of community. Please contact the church office for additional information (434-6194) Students from Peak View Elementary & Montevideo Middle School can ride the bus from school directly to the church.
Confirmation Class
Confirmation class is held once a year, usually during the winter and spring months. It is a thirteen-week program where Middle and Sr. High youth decide for themselves whether they want to commit their lives to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The goal of the class is discipleship - the production of people who resemble disciples of Jesus in their lifestyle, beliefs, and values. We seek to make this process experiential, personal, and engaging. It is not a graduation from Sunday School, but one stop in a life-long journey of growth in faith.
