Massanutten Presbyterian Church Ministry Descriptions
Administrative
The Administrative Ministry supports the church staff by providing healthy, effective and wholesome nurturing. This ministry is also responsible for the oversight and direction of office work and priorities.
Adult Education
The Adult Education Ministry oversees, encourages and supports the adult education programs of Massanutten Presbyterian Church. Sunday programs, Small Group opportunities and Disciple Bible Study are examples of some of the areas this ministry supports.
Communications
The Communications Ministry is responsible for providing information to the congregation and public about congregational life and events. It strives to promote the ministry of this congregation throughout the community through the uses of various media, including the quarterly publication, Our Journey.
Congregational Care
The Congregational Care Ministry oversees and provides opportunities for the congregation to join in supporting the members and friends of the congregation. Some of the areas this ministry is responsible for include: the shepherd groups and nursery, organizing the Lenten lunches and providing ongoing support to college students and military personnel.
Family Ministries
The Family Ministry team seeks to strengthen and nurture the bonds of families and faith. Through diverse programming in the areas of church life involving children, youth and family, the ministry provides opportunities for the congregation to live out the vows made to children and their parents at the time of baptism. WOW (Worship on Wednesday), Faith Village and ROCK (Raising our Christian Kids), Middle and High School Youth, are some of the areas this ministry supports.
Fellowship
The Fellowship Ministry provides opportunities for the congregation to gather together that will encourage the building of deeper relationships between members. The annual Independence Day Picnic, Fall Fellowship Meal and Christmas Dinner are examples of some of this ministry’s work.
Mission
The Mission Ministry is responsible for leading the congregation’s mission focus locally, nationally and internationally. Recent areas of mission support include work trips in support of Katrina Hurricane relief and youth work in Baja California, Mexico. The ministry is currently exploring opportunities to respond to local needs and creating international mission worker connections.
Music Programs
The Music Programs at Massanutten Presbyterian Church support the work of the Worship Ministry in their effort to provide weekly and special opportunities for the congregation to gather together in meaningful worship. They also offer the congregation a venue to use musical gifts and talents in service to our Lord.
Office Volunteers
Office Volunteers provide regular and occasional support to our administrative staff, and enhance the fellowship and enjoyment of ‘mundane’ office tasks such as preparing the newsletter for mailing, proofreading bulletins and answering phones as needed.
Open Door
The Open Door Ministry seeks to extend God’s love and acceptance to all who enter the doors of our congregation, creating an atmosphere of belonging. This ministry also seeks to reach out and invite the community around us to experience the ministry of the congregation, as it communicates the vision and mission of the church.
Outreach
The Community Outreach Ministry supports the congregation's outreach into the surrounding community both through financial contribution and also through hands-on involvement. Some of the organizations and projects of this ministry include: The Massanutten Food Pantry, Blood Drives, People Helping People, the Christmas Angel Tree and HARTS. This ministry is also responsible for educating the congregation about upcoming and special offerings such as Four-Cents-A-Meal, Christmas Joy and Disaster Relief.
Presbyterian Women
The Massanutten Presbyterian Women are committed to nurturing faith through Bible Study, supporting mission, justice and peace efforts throughout the world and building an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens both the larger church and the local congregation of MPC. Circles provide opportunities for women to gather in a smaller venue for fellowship and study, while a Coordinating Team meets monthly and provides direction and guidance to the PW congregational mission.
Property
The Property Ministry seeks to protect, maintain and enhance church buildings and grounds. Many different skills and skill levels are welcomed in support of this ministry. Some of the recent efforts of this ministry include: replacing and updating church signage, repairing and/or providing for the repair of church property, providing annual church workdays for congregational involvement.
Stewardship and Finance
The Stewardship and Finance Ministry develops and oversees the annual operating budget and other funds as needed for the mission of the church. This ministry is also charged with the education of the congregation about the responsibilities of stewardship for money, time and talents.
Worship
The Worship Ministry is charged with providing and enhancing weekly and special services for the public worship of God. This team seeks to make worship a significant and meaningful experience for the Massanutten Presbyterian Church community.
Massanutten School
The Massanutten School includes weekday educational opportunities for children age 2 – kindergarten. It is staffed with certified teachers and a director; support is offered through the Massanutten School Board which meets monthly.
